Tips for Gene Searching

To obtain information about a gene from the databases from the Centers in the SCGAP consortium, enter gene symbols eg. Gata2. Select the species in which you are interested; either human or mouse.

To search by gene coordinates (eg. chr3:129,519,480-129,527,614 ) use the “Advanced Search” mode.

To search by Affymetrix identifiers (eg. 37194_at) enter the identifier from any of the following arrays:

  • Affymetrix MG-U74Av2
  • Affymetrix MG-U74Bv2
  • Affymetrix MG-U74Cv2
  • Affymetrix HG-U95Av2
  • Affymetrix HG-U95B
  • Affymetrix HG-U95C
  • Affymetrix HG-U95D
  • Affymetrix HG-U95E

Use % in your search as a wildcard character eg. Gata% will return results for Gata1, Gata2, Gata3, etc...

Gene searches will return a table with the following symbols:

  • yes = information about that gene available
  • no = not found or no information about that gene
  • maybe = equivocal data

For information on how these symbols are assigned, please read the Steps for Determining Gene Expression.

Clicking on the symbol in the table will return the quantitative experimental data.

Clicking on the “Population” link will return the experimental design information and in some cases, access to the original data files.
